Arameans of Sherbrooke, 1960s

A group picture of the Aramean community of St. Ephrem's Syriac Orthodox church in Shebrooke, Canada, in the 1960s with the church council and church priest Abuna Carim Karma. He was born in Hafar, Syria. In 1977, he was nominated by then-mayor of Sherbrooke, Jacques O’Bready, to receive the Queen Elizabeth II silver medal. In 1992, Robert Bourassa, Quebec's Prime Minister, expressed his appreciation of Karma’s faith and long life of service at Karma’s 40th anniversary of dedication to the Syriac Orthodox Church.
