"There was Abraham, from the house of Nahor, in the country of Aram."
Nahor’s home was Harran, located west of Mardin and south of Edessa. Saint Jacob of Serugh calls both places the country of Aram. On this basis, one may reasonably infer that the wider Upper Mesopotamian region, including Tur Abdin, Edessa, and Harran, was considered the land of Aram.
